Transportation and Infrastructure

Policy Accomplishments for 2007

Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)
  • Successfully lobbied Congress to override the president's veto of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). This long-overdue bill will provide the Army Corps of Engineers with the resources it needs to undertake hundreds of flood control, navigation, and environmental mitigation projects over the next two years and ensure that transportation demands are addressed.
Fiscal Year 2008 Transportation Appropriations
  • Secured Senate passage of H.R. 3074, the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2008 and House passage of the related conference report. This bill addresses the enormous demands of the U.S. transportation infrastructure system by providing funding for highway and transit programs as authorized under SAFETEA-LU. In addition, it provides full funding for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve the safety, performance, and capacity of the nation's aviation system.
Support for Transportation Infrastructure Investment
  • Testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Budget Committee on the importance of transportation infrastructure to the American business community.
Let's Rebuild America Initiative
  • Launched Let's Rebuild America, an initiative by the U.S. Chamber to engage its members in reframing infrastructure issues and develop and drive solutions that result in expanded capacity, more efficient and effective strategies, and new sources of capital.
